Operate snowplows, graders, and loaders as a Spare Winter Equipment Operator serving Halifax East and multiple Nova Scotia bases. Apply Class III licensing and air brake expertise.
The Nova Scotia Department of Public Works is hiring spare operators for Spry Bay, Middle Musquodoboit, and Chezzetcook. You will train in snow and ice control operations, complete paid plowing experience, and support winter road safety across Zones 12, 13, and 17.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate snowplows, graders, and loaders for snow removal
- Complete equipment maintenance and pre-and-post trip inspections
- Maintain daily logs and inspection reports
- Perform road surface repairs and traffic control
- Maintain signs as operational needs require
- Two years of experience or acceptable equivalent qualifications
- Minimum Class III licence with air brake endorsement
- Reading and writing skills for department documentation
- Flexibility and self-motivation in all weather conditions
- Comfort working near traffic and environmental hazards
