Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Estimator          at Giving Tree        in        Hallandale,        Florida

Estimator

Giving Tree is a growing federal contractor specializing in material supply, transportation, logistics, and construction support services for government agencies across the United States and internationally. We primarily work with the National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Department of Defense (DoD).

The Role

We're looking for an Estimator who can evaluate opportunities, understand what it will actually take to perform the work, and develop accurate and competitive pricing. This is not a position for someone who wants to wait for information to come to them. Our estimators are expected to research, make calls, negotiate, solve problems, stay organized, and take ownership of their opportunities from beginning to end.

You may be working on several completely different projects at the same time, each with different deadlines, locations, vendors, and requirements.

What You'll Do
  • Review federal solicitations, scopes of work, specifications, plans, and drawings
  • Break projects down into labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, transportation, and logistics
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed project estimates
  • Source and contact subcontractors, suppliers, trucking companies, and equipment providers
  • Spend significant time on the phone obtaining pricing and understanding how work will be performed
  • Request, compare, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor quotes
  • Push back on pricing when necessary and look for better alternatives
  • Research unfamiliar scopes, markets, materials, and project locations
  • Manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously
  • Maintain organized records of quotes, assumptions, contacts, and pricing
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative approaches
  • Work closely with the team to determine bid strategy and final pricing
  • Take ownership of opportunities from initial review through bid submission
The Traits We're Looking For:

Organized

You need to be able to manage multiple projects, quotes, contacts, deadlines, documents, and follow-ups without things falling through the cracks.

Strong Multitasker

Our opportunities move quickly. You may be estimating several projects in different states and different industries at the same time.

Available & Responsive

Federal contracting operates around hard deadlines. We need someone dependable, responsive, and willing to step up when an opportunity requires extra attention.

Strong Negotiator

We want someone who is comfortable challenging a price, asking for a better deal, and respectfully pushing back when something doesn't make sense. You should be able to build strong relationships without being overly agreeable.

Good on the Phone

A large part of estimating is talking to people. You should be comfortable calling contractors you've never spoken with, asking intelligent questions, building rapport quickly, and getting the information you need.

Team Player

You'll have ownership over your estimates, but you're part of a team. We expect people to communicate, share information, help each other, and contribute to the company's overall success.

Performance & Money Motivated

We want someone who likes winning and is motivated by measurable results. There is earning potential tied to performance, so this role is best suited for someone who is motivated by both growth and financial upside.

Persistent

You will hear no. Vendors won't always call back. Quotes will fall through. Bids will be lost. Some weeks will be great and others won't. We're looking for someone who stays consistent through the highs and lows and keeps moving forward.

Adaptable

One week you may be estimating road rehabilitation for the National Park Service. The next could involve aggregate deliveries for the Department of Defense or site improvements for U.S. Fish & Wildlife. You need to be comfortable learning quickly and adapting to unfamiliar situations.

Intrapreneurial

We want people who think like owners. That means taking initiative, identifying opportunities, solving problems without constantly being told what to do, and looking for ways to improve how we estimate and compete.

What We Value

We don't expect you to know every type of construction project on day one. We do expect you to be able to figure things out. A strong estimator at Giving Tree asks questions, makes calls, follows up, negotiates, researches, compares options, and keeps digging until they understand the real cost and requirements of performing the work.

What We Offer
  • Full in-house training
  • Base salary + performance incentives
  • Significant earning potential for strong performers
  • Exposure to a wide variety of federal construction and logistics projects
  • Direct involvement with projects for NPS, USFWS, DoD, and other federal agencies
  • Opportunity to take on greater responsibility as the company grows
  • A small team where individual performance has a visible impact

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, creed, color, or national origin.
