The Axel Group is partnered with a well-established, general contractor and construction management firm with a long history of delivering complex commercial and institutional projects throughout New England. Their portfolio includes K-12 education, higher education, municipal, healthcare, and other commercial construction projects.
Our client is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join their growing team and support the successful delivery of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This is an excellent opportunity for a construction professional who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and looking to grow their career within a collaborative and established organization.
Responsibilities- Support the Project Manager with the overall direction and successful completion of assigned construction projects.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project team members.
- Assist with preconstruction activities, including developing bidder lists and bid packages, soliciting subcontractor participation, reviewing bids, and supporting contract awards.
- Establish and maintain project-specific procedures, logs, and documentation in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Manage the submittal process, including expediting, reviewing, tracking, and distributing submittals in accordance with project requirements.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, insurance certificates, bonds, certified payrolls, EEO documentation, and other project-specific requirements.
- Track and manage Requests for Information (RFIs), Architect/Engineer Sketches, Architect's Supplemental Instructions, drawing logs, and other design-related documentation.
- Update project drawings and specifications as revisions are received from the design team.
- Assist with the preparation and issuance of Change Order Proposals to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review and track subcontractor and supplier change order pricing in coordination with the Project Manager.
- Maintain accurate change order logs and update project management systems with cost information.
- Attend project meetings and prepare and distribute meeting minutes.
- Assist with the collection and organization of project closeout documentation.
- Support the Project Superintendent and field team as needed throughout the project.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all project-related matters.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the successful completion of assigned projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in an Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, or similar construction role.
- Experience with commercial, institutional, educational, healthcare, municipal, or other complex construction projects is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and project administration.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to take ownership of responsibilities.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with construction project management software.
- Experience with Sage/Timberline project management software is a plus.
- Experience with Primavera scheduling software is a plus.
