Sports Communications Faculty Position

The School of Communications at Quinnipiac University invites applications for an open-rank, full-time faculty member in Sports Communications. Rank and specific departmental assignment will be determined by the qualifications of the successful candidate. The position will begin in Spring 2027 or Fall 2027. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of a new, cutting-edge interdisciplinary major in Sports Communications launched in the Fall 2025 semester.

The Sports Communications Program will prepare students for a host of careers revolving in and around sports. From documentary filmmaking to audience engagement, from social media reach to marketing integrations, from economic impact to cultural significance, from media/data analytics to all forms of storytelling, the Sports Communications Program will bring together the different disciplines within the School of Communications and capitalize on how each intersects with sports.

Responsibilities include a passion for teaching in Quinnipiac's new Sports Communications Program as well as various journalism, public relations, advertising, film, graphic design, media studies, media production, social media, immersive media and analytics courses. Participation in curricular development for our BA in Sports Communications, MS in Sports Journalism and other School of Communications programs. Commitment to mentoring students in academic, professional and co-curricular matters and pursuits.

All candidates must be able to achieve excellence in teaching and actively participate in departmental, school and university affairs, as well as recruitment and alumni relations activities.

Education Requirements include a minimum of a master's degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Social Media or Sports Management. An earned doctoral degree in Communications, Media, Journalism, Sports Journalism, or a related field from an appropriately accredited College or University is a plus.

Qualifications include at least six years of significant professional experience in sports journalism, media content creation for television, broadcast, streaming or sports data analytics -- or a combination thereof. Previous teaching experience or supervision of students is preferred. Knowledge of analytics is required. Considerable high-level connections in the Sports Media and Journalism industries to facilitate new partnerships, internships, and/or practicums as well as career-related programming for students.

Comfort with instructional technology and/or educational platforms is required. Commitment to contribute to the excellence of the academic community.
