Job Goal: Provide each educationally handicapped student with a program that will enable the student to reach his or her fullest physical, emotional, psychological, and behavioral potential.
Qualifications- Certification in the subject and/or grade level to be taught as determined by state certification authorities.
- Other alternatives to the above qualification as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Provides a basic core program for special education students consistent with state education code requirements.
- Confers frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and personal problems of such students.
- Assists other professional staff members in resolving the unique psychological or disciplinary problems of each student.
- Assists in screening, evaluating and recommending placements for applicants in the school’s special education program.
- Counsels individuals and groups of special education students with educational, occupational, and personal problems.
- Assists special education students in making realistic assessments of their abilities and establishes educational and occupational goals in keeping with these abilities.
- Provides motivation to students who have a short attention span.
- Takes responsibility for professional growth and development.
The duties of this job require the employee to stand, sit, talk, and hear regularly, and to walk, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must reach with hands and arms regularly, and may be required to lift, push or move up to 50 pounds including office supplies, books and other instructional materials. Hearing and vision requirements include hearing clearly within normal limits and vision correctable to 20/20, distance vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.
Stress may arise from interacting with students, faculty or the public and meeting deadlines. Adaptive technology may be used.
Exposure to student illnesses. Regular intermittent exposure to computer screens. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. The employee works with students, staff and the public, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.

EvaluationPerformance of the person holding this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy one evaluation of certified personnel.
