Job Goal:
To administer the educational program of the school in accordance with school board policies and administrative rules and regulations and to provide leadership in the development and improvement of that program.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

I. Instructional Services
  • Administers the instructional program in accordance with requirements and standards set by the school board and the state.
  • Assumes responsibility for the quality of the instructional program of the school.
  • Provides for the continuing development of instructional techniques and assists personnel in improving methodology and teaching strategies.
  • Provides for cooperative curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Coordinates activities of staff members with other administrators and consultants.
  • Provides leadership for the study of educational and administrative problems of the school.
  • II. Staff Personnel Services
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, assignment and reassignment of building staff.
  • Participates in the orientation of new personnel to the district and to the school.
  • Provides leadership in creating a desirable climate conducive to good morale.
  • Organizes and conducts meetings of the faculty and related committees.
  • Provides for the safety, health, and welfare of the staff assigned to the school.
  • Assigns instructional and other responsibilities, including the assignment of student teachers and interns.
  • Encourages staff and screens requests for conferences.
  • Establishes appropriate staff committees to facilitate the implementation of various staff professional social activities.
  • I III. Staff Supervision and Evaluation
  • Supervises, evaluates, and recommends the retention or dismissal of classroom teachers K-6, secretarial and custodial staff.
  • Provides guidance and supporting services to staff members that lead to improved job performance.
  • Maintains records for each staff member for use in reports, evaluations, and recommendations.
  • Has knowledge of State statutes and policies regulating and affecting elementary schools and interprets these to staff.
  • IV. Pupil Personnel Services
    1. Provides leadership in creating a climate conducive to learning.
    2. Registers, schedules, and orients pupils assigned to the school.
    3. Provides for safety, health and welfare of pupils.
    4. Administers regulations regarding pupil enrollment, attendance, behavior, and discipline.
    5. Arranges for transportation of pupils for school activities and for their supervision.
    6. Provides opportunities to participate in a program of educational, intramural, and cultural activities.
    7. Participates in the recommendation, evaluation and assignment of pupils to special programs of education.
    8. Maintains a system and procedure concerning pupil records.

    V. School Operations
    1. Develops and understanding of the philosophy governing the operations of the building
    2. Establishes and maintains means of communication and dissemination of information with pupils and staff.
    3. Provides support for the development of medical centers and services.
    4. Supervises the operation of food and custodial services.
    5. Administers building security measures.
    6. Oversees the condition of the facility, grounds, and equipment and requests correction of hazardous or inadequate conditions.
    7. Maintains adequate and functional supplies for staff and pupils.
    8. Implements employee agreements, administrative procedures, directives, and Board policies.
    9. Makes best use of available resources and facility.
    10. Develops, coordinates, and implements the budget in conjunction wit other administrators.
    11. Maintains records and controls in the requisitioning of approved budgetary items.
    12. Accounts for all funds collected within the school in accordance with recommended procedures.
    13. Participates in the planning of new facilities and the remodeling of existing facilities.
    14. Completes and submits reports required for the Connecticut Department of Education.
    15. Provides special reports and an annual report of continuing, new and proposed programs

    VI. Community Relations
    1. Works with individual and groups in the community to inform and seek, input regarding school policies and procedures.
