Restorative Practices Teacher Leader
The Restorative Practices Teacher Leader is responsible for building the capacity of school and district leadership to reduce student disengagement through coaching, supporting, and ensuring accountability; to effectively implement a continuum of restorative practices and systems to build community, prevent harm and ensure student accountability. The position involves the coordination of district wide infrastructure and strategy to provide and monitor the effectiveness of the restorative practices continuum (universal, additional, and intensive supports) using data.
Duties and responsibilities include prioritizing relationships, collaboration, and communication; strengthening comprehensive understanding of the NHPS Code of Conduct; coordinating and providing professional development, training, and presentations to build the capacity of the school site staff in the implementation of restorative practices; training and coaching groups and individuals to facilitate the continuum of restorative practices; building positive relationships with school staff, administration, school support team, students, community partners, and families;
developing strategies that emphasize prevention and whole school implementation of restorative practices; supporting the reduction of racial disparities in suspensions and expulsions through the use of evidence-based practices; documenting, tracking and coordinating the expulsion process and rehabilitation process for students; planning, implementing and documenting individual and small-group coaching cycles with school staff; and supporting schools in their efforts to use restorative practices as a means of suspension prevention.
Minimum qualifications include formal training in restorative practices, experience facilitating restorative practices and social-emotional learning for school stakeholders, experience in building a positive school culture and implementing tiered supports for student success, experience in coaching adults and leading them to achieve goals, deep understanding of regulations regarding suspensions and expulsions, strong facilitation and active listening skills, strong personal commitment to social justice and healing work, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, experience developing and facilitating professional development, and computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Google Suite.
Certification/endorsement requirements must be met as established by Connecticut State Statutes. Special requirements and physical requirements are not detailed in this post. Salary is contingent on degree and years of experience, ranging from $53,220 to $108,047 for a 10-month work year under Local 933, The New Haven Federation of Teachers. Evaluation is conducted annually in accordance with the district's policy for the evaluation of teachers and the New Haven Federation of Teachers contract.
