Position Purpose

In accordance with the Mission, Core Values and Vision; the Victim Advocacy Specialist provides comprehensive support and advocacy services to victims of human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence. Works closely with survivors to ensure they have access to the resources, care, and protection they need to begin their healing journey. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare providers, law enforcement, and social services, to offer trauma-informed, survivor-centered assistance.

Ensure follow-up regularly occurs with the identified patient population as necessary following discharge from the hospital.

  • Relationship-based Care:
    Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient and family at the center of care throughout their experience at Mount Carmel following the principles of our interdisciplinary care delivery system.
  • Provides direct support to survivors of human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence, including crisis intervention, safety planning, and emotional support.
  • Accompanies survivors to medical, legal, and social service appointments as needed.
  • Advocates for the rights and needs of survivors within the healthcare system, law enforcement, and legal proceedings.
  • Connects survivors with appropriate resources, such as emergency housing, legal aid, counseling services, and financial assistance.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of community resources and services available to survivors.
  • Works under the direction of the physician/provider and Forensic Unit leadership to guide victims through the healthcare system; coordinates the logistics for adherence to a healthcare plan.
  • Conducts awareness and prevention programs for community members, professionals, and at-risk populations.
  • Provides training and education to healthcare providers, law enforcement, and social service agencies on recognizing and responding to victims of trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
  • Develops and implements individualized care plans for survivors, focusing on their immediate and long-term needs.
  • Maintains detailed and confidential records of client interactions, services provided, and outcomes.
  • Works with a multidisciplinary team to ensure a coordinated and effective response to survivors' needs.
  • Participates in community coalitions and task forces aimed at combating human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence.
  • Displays sensitivity to and understanding of various cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.
  • Experience:

    2 years of experience working with victims of violence, exploitation, or trauma. Experience in developing training programs or plans.
  • Effective Communication Skills
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office software products.
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Culturally sensitive and comfortable working with a diverse urban population.
  • Strong knowledge of human trafficking, sexual assault, and domestic violence issues, including legal and social service systems.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings or weekends.
  • Reliable transportation to make patient home visits and accompanying on appointments as needed.
  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
