Job Summary

Day Kimball Health is hiring a part‑time Phlebotomist for the Lab Department in Putnam, CT. The position is 20 hours per week, 1st Shift.

Responsibilities

As the Phlebotomist, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for:

  • Obtaining blood specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture and micro‑techniques; selecting the correct tube/specimen type based on physician orders.
  • Instructing patients to collect urine and throat cultures using proper chain of custody or sterile techniques.
  • Ensuring patient identification and compliance with latest procedures and policies.
  • Registering and ordering tests when required.
  • Reviewing requisitions, choosing appropriate tubes, and generating accurate labels.
  • Assessing specimen integrity and using discard tubes or racking serum tubes when necessary.
  • Providing instruction to students or UR/PCTs from the ED for phlebotomy procedures.
Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Graduation and certification from an approved phlebotomy program or recognized certifying agency.
  • Valid driver’s license, proof of current liability insurance, and reliable vehicle.
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience in a hospital lab.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with venipuncture and micro‑puncture techniques.
  • Knowledge of infection control and OSHA requirements.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems (order entry, inquiry, specimen tracking).
  • Excellent communication skills (telephone, written correspondence, speaking).
  • Understanding of OSHA biohazard regulations.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
