Chief Of Staff
The Yale School of Management (Yale SOM) is seeking a Chief of Staff to support the Dean and advance the school's strategic priorities. As a member of the operational and strategic leadership team, the Chief of Staff leads key initiatives, manages high-level relationships, oversees communications, and drives special projects. The role represents the Dean to university offices, faculty, staff, students, alumni, the New Haven community, and external partners.
Essential Duties
- Serve as a confidential resource to and liaison for the Dean, handling the resolution of routine or complex, sensitive situations across the school, university and broader network with highly developed tact, discretion, and judgment.
- Lead strategic initiatives and major projects originating from the Dean's Office, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, and tracking progress to completion; this includes leading search committees for mission critical staff roles.
- Represent the Dean's interests in meetings and engagements, ensuring consistent communication, alignment, and follow-up across stakeholders, and serving as a liaison with university and external partners to advance institutional priorities.
- Partner extensively with the Executive Assistant to anticipate and manage requests for the Dean's time, creating systems to prioritize engagements and determine when matters require the Dean's, Deputy Deans' or other senior staff involvement.
- Develop briefings and presentations, synthesizing research and complex information, including historical data, biographical, and corporate profiles, into clear, actionable insights to ensure the Dean is fully prepared for presentations, meetings and events.
- Facilitate high-level meetings by preparing agendas, coordinating materials, establishing meeting cadences, and ensuring follow-through on decisions and action items.
- Distill complex, fast-moving discussions into precise written records, action logs, and communications while maintaining accuracy in quotations, terminology, and material details.
- Strategize content and speakers for Dean's Office events, review run of show for any significant event with Dean involvement and prepare Dean's Office staff and others to support the Dean at events.
- Oversee communications originating from the Dean's Office, drafting or reviewing content, flow and quality, and archiving all communications.
- Stay current on relevant world-wide business, alumni, and Yale SOM issues and alert Dean to evolving stories or trends.
- Collaborate with the Dean's Cabinet and Leadership Team, comprised of faculty deans and staff, and leaders across the university, to connect SOM and the university.
- Create opportunities to communicate the strengths and values of the school.
- Plan, direct, and manage administrative functions of the Dean's Office, including supervision and development of staff.

Skills and Abilities
- High level of flexibility, independent judgment, and ability to work with own initiative to represent the Dean and the Dean's priorities to multiple stakeholder groups including senior staff, faculty, university representatives and New Haven community.
- Exceptional research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
- Superb listening skills with the ability to capture and synthesize complex discussions in real time with exceptional precision and fidelity to exact language.
- Outstanding communication and executive advisory skills, with experience developing briefings, reports, and presentations for senior leadership and various other constituents.
- Ability to manage complex projects and other confidential and high stakes matters with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment, in a timely and efficient manner.
Preferred
Skills and Abilities
- MBA or other relevant graduate degree.
- Experience leading projects in higher education that engage many stakeholders.
