Overview

The Leadership Giving Officer will serve as a key member of Yale SOM’s Development and Alumni Relations team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Leadership Giving, the officer is responsible for qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding leadership‑level donors for capital and Alumni Fund gifts. The leadership giving officer will develop and implement strategies to secure increasing levels of financial support from a portfolio of approximately 175 alumni in NYC and California and qualify prospects for major gift potential.

This frontline fundraising role facilitates and coordinates communications and positive interactions with prospects and donors, as well as among faculty members and administrators on campus.

Job title and level will be commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Reunion Giving team to recruit reunion volunteers and secure leadership reunion gifts from an assigned pool of prospects.
  • Meet activity and revenue goals by planning, managing, and maintaining an aggressive travel schedule in specified regions annually.
  • Raise capital and unrestricted leadership gifts to fund core SOM priorities.
  • Individually solicit leadership annual and capital gifts up to approximately $250,000, working directly with donors and coordinating with department colleagues and volunteers.
  • Develop and implement strategies to move assigned prospects through the gift cycle, emphasizing prospect qualification, retention, renewal, and upgrades, and devise strategies to redirect disinterested donors.
  • Participate in the execution of events and programs in support of development activities; engage key volunteers and effectively utilize events and other activities to advance solicitations.
  • Conduct stewardship activities to further enhance relationships between assigned donors and Yale, initiating and maintaining contact to promote positive donor relations.
  • Qualify prospects for potential major gift capacity and provide appropriate background for assignment to Major Gift portfolios.
  • Effectively communicate progress of cultivation efforts and results of visits to appropriate personnel, using Yale’s alumni and donor database efficiently.
  • Act as liaison between various SOM departments and donors.
  • Exercise good judgment when discussing alumni, issues, and results, and maintain composure and a calm demeanor in difficult situations.
