Scope of Position

The Business Development Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining client relationships, identifying prospects, following up on leads, and developing proposals for their business unit. They are responsible for developing a sales pipeline that aligns with Clearford’s strategy in specific target sectors and geographies, and meeting revenue and earnings targets.

Major Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list of duties to be performed).

  • Develop and execute long-term sales goals and objectives in collaboration with the Business Development and Management Teams.
  • Identify and research new business opportunities within targeted market sectors.
  • Assess target markets and understand competitive market strategies used to attract and retain clients.
  • Drive consistent sales growth by building and maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships in alignment with Clearford strategies.
  • Lead negotiations and successfully close business deals.
  • Manage client expectations by fostering positive working relationships through regular communication, including in-person meetings, written correspondence, and verbal communication.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of current market conditions, applicable legislation, and competitor offerings to inform sales strategies.
  • Prepare and deliver marketing presentations to existing and prospective clients, effectively communicating the full scope of Clearford’s services and capabilities.
  • Work collaboratively with technical, marketing, and administrative teams to develop proposals.
  • Partner with marketing and sales teams to support the development of marketing materials and sales tools.
  • Represent and promote Clearford’s services at industry and association events, conferences, and trade shows.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry, maintenance, and management of client and sales data within the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Prepare and deliver regular and ad hoc reports as required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Required Knowledge, Experience & Competencies

  • Must have a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: business development, engineering, land use planning, environmental consulting, and/or facility operations related to communal water and wastewater systems.
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in a relevant discipline such as Engineering, Environmental Studies, Planning, Business, or Commerce, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant professional designations are considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in prospecting, developing, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Proven ability to prepare well-written proposals and professional reports.
  • Experience administering and negotiating contracts.
  • Superior presentation and communication skills with the ability to convey technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong proficiency in a Windows-based environment, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Power Point, and SharePoint.
  • Experience using CRM systems is considered an asset.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license (Class G minimum) and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, and committed to delivering and exceptional client experience.
  • Hours of work and Travel Expectations

  • 40 Hours a week.
  • Regular hours of operation are Monday to Friday, from 9-5. There may be an occasional requirement to work outside business hours to meet deadlines, or attend business related events.
