Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Inclusion Programming, the Inclusion Facilitator–Support Program plans and organizes recreational and outdoor programs for children and participants (aged 3 – 29 yrs.) with additional needs. Oversees the accommodations and inclusion of all participants into recreation programs.
GENERAL DUTIES- Assists in the development, implementation and coordination of daily recreational and outdoor programs for children and participants with additional needs. Works in a 1:1 or group setting with participants to ensure program accommodations are met during all group activities.
- Supports and implements positive behaviour management strategies for all participants during recreational programs and activities.
- Develops and submits for approval weekly program plans consisting of active and quiet games, crafts and special events. Provides input into Instructor program plans to suggest required accommodations or program adaptations.
- Maintains a safe environment for all participants during all program activities, offsite trips or walks.
- Assists with the feeding, toileting and all personal care of participants as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned which are directly related to the major responsibilities of the position.
- Previous experience working with children or participants living with additional needs or those who require accommodations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of different conditions such as:
- Neurological developmental disability
- Communication, learning, intellectual or cognitive disability
- Mobility or physical disability
- Person with an emotional or mental disability
- Examples could be but are not limited to: central auditory processing disorders, speech language or hearing, social communication, ADHD, Autism, Cerebal Palsy, Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anxiety disorder or participants who use mobility devices
- Skills in inclusive adaptation and modification for recreation activities including crafts, music, sports, games, arts and drama.
- Ability to complete manual lifts/transfer of participants on a minimal basis, lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form. Ability to understand basic sign language or use of Picture Communication boards/tablets would be an asset.
- Must possess and maintain current certification in "Standard" First Aid with CPR Level "C". (This must be clearly identified on your resume.) All "Standard" First Aid certificates must be issued by a training agency recognized by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB). Please refer to the WSIB website for approved providers. At time of assessment (which could be as early as days after the posting closes), you will be asked to provide "proof" that you possess the required certificate(s).
