Looking for an opportunity to help launch new audio programming at CBC Hamilton and engage with audiences as a host and storyteller?

CBC News is launching a new weekday morning current affairs radio program and a weekly news podcast to serve audiences in the Hamilton region, and we’re hiring an experienced host to help connect audiences to the news they need to know, the stories that affect their lives and the issues that resonate in their communities.

As an editorial leader and dynamic on-air presenter, you will be an insatiably curious storyteller with a passion for drawing information, emotion and stories out of interview subjects. You are an active listener who seeks clarity and understanding, anticipating what the audience needs and wants to know. As such, you are equally comfortable holding a politician accountable as you are chatting with children, and you know when to put people at ease and when to challenge them.

You will be expected to quickly analyze a broad range of issues – from politics to social issues to business, pop culture, science and environment and everything in between. You are comfortable going on the air at any time, reacting to breaking news and changing events, updating and adapting as needed.

You have a sense of adventure, an eclectic range of interests and a keen desire to meet new people and learn other perspectives. You are committed to giving our audiences knowledge, insight and a deeper understanding about their community, and you champion stories from under-represented communities. You are comfortable listening to and engaging with people who have different viewpoints, and welcome opportunities to challenge the status quo and confront bias.

As a leader on the CBC Hamilton team, you will act as a team unifier, mentor and collaborator, consistently offering creative solutions to challenges, and helping other team members reach their highest potential through coaching and thoughtful feedback. You will play a key role in helping us grow audiences, whether that’s through public appearances or by contributing to and appearing on CBC programming across platforms.

You will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

This position will generally be scheduled Monday through Friday, from 4:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. and requires full-time, on-site presence. Flexibility to work other shifts times and days will be required.

This is a contract position, for an 18-month term beginning in approximately October 2026, with the possibility of extension.

We are hiring several other jobs in our Hamilton station and in southern Ontario. You can see them all here.
