Your new role
As Accounting Manager, you will report directly to the Director of Finance and play a key role in the financial management and reporting of a growing, multi-disciplinary design firm specializing in sustainable architecture, mechanical engineering, and interior design.This position offers a unique opportunity for long-term career progression, including direct mentorship from the Director of Finance and a defined path to evolve into that role. You will operate in a hands-on capacity, supporting both day-to-day accounting operations and strategic initiatives such as financial modeling and acquisitions, within a collaborative and project-driven environment.
What you'll need to succeed
• CPA designation (required)• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or mid-tier preferred)
• Prior experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller within a professional services environment
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, andmunication skills
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to managepeting priorities
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial analysis
• Experience in architecture, engineering, or project-based professional services (AEC industry)
• Experience with Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vision, or similar ERP systems
• Exposure to mergers and acquisitions
• Experience working in a multi-entity or growth environment
• Supervise, mentor, and support a Senior Project Accountant and Junior Accountant
• Review reconciliations (bank, credit cards, etc.) and guide daily team activities
• Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment
• Support full-cycle accounting including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements, including consolidated results
• Collaborate with the Director of Finance on day-to-day accounting operations, including cheque runs and payroll (temporary oversight)
• Maintain accuracy and integrity of financial records across multiple entities
• Contribute to the preparation of materials for shareholder and Board meetings
• Assist with financial modeling and sensitivity analysis for acquisitions
• Support accounting integration for newly acquired businesses
• Provide financial guidance and insights to project managers
• Analyze project performance and support decision-making across the organization
