About the Company
Our client is a food manufacturing company that operates three plants and two distribution centres. The Controller role is highly operational and serves as the key finance business partner to plant leadership.
Position OverviewThe role responsibilities split roughly into 50% Financial Reporting & Analysis and 50% Operations Support & Business Partnering.
Responsibilities- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Month‑end close and financial reporting
- EBITDA bridge analysis
- Margin analysis and reporting
- Variance analysis
- Financial statement review and presentations
- Operations Support & Business Partnering
- Partner with Plant Managers and Operations leaders
- Provide operational finance support and insights
- Translate financial results into actionable business recommendations
- Present results and analysis to senior leadership, including the CEO and CFO
- Act as the “right hand” to the Plant Manager on financial and operational matters
- Provide leadership to the accounting team (5 FTE) – goal setting, coaching, mentoring, training, and performance management
- Partner with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting and analysis
- Yield and labour efficiency
- Impact of SKU mix from a yield, labour and expense perspective
- Labour and operational expenses
- Inventory on hand balances and trending DIO
- A Fe review and tracking against approved project plan
- Cost savings initiatives – development of new ideas and performance against each one
- Engage in regular meetings with senior executives – present financial results with clear, concise analysis of YoY performance
- Drive process improvement for accounting team, focusing on value‑add activities
- Manage month‑end close process and complete financial reporting package with in‑depth variance analysis
- Support enforcement of closing timelines for daily, weekly and monthly reporting activities
- Effectively manage partnerships with grocery customers while maintaining a strong working capital position
- Manage cash flow by reporting on cash movements and monitoring working capital levels
- Establish and monitor internal controls and regulatory compliance – ensure all balance‑sheet and variance account reconciliations are completed monthly and cleared promptly
- Key contact for Treasury, inter‑company divisions and external audits – coordinate efforts, prepare and review required information, meet deadlines and liaise with other Controllers to best practices
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics or business administration
- CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation and at least 10+ years progressive experience
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food processing
- Demonstrated independent controllership experience, including operations accounting, analysis, standard costing and business analysis
- Knowledge of ASPE and ability to interpret and apply guidance
- Demonstrated leadership and people‑management / team‑development skills
$140,000 – $160,000 per year.
