The Senior Financial Consultant contributes to the overall success of the MD Client Value Performance in Canada, ensuring specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The role adheres to governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Reporting to the Regional Manager, the consultant assists MD clients and their families in achieving their personal financial goals.

Working with MD’s Specialist Advisors, the consultant leverages experience and a strong client focus to prepare comprehensive financial plans and investment strategies, identify new opportunities to prospect and grow the client base, and retain clients through relationship building.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate a team approach by actively referring clients to MD Private Investment Counsel, MD Private Trust, MD Insurance and MD Banking Products.
  • Ensure client needs are proactively addressed in alignment with their current financial situation, life stage, and future aspirations.
  • Further knowledge of advanced financial planning concepts, including income tax, investment trends, and product impacts on clients, while maintaining compliance with industry regulations.
  • Participate in facilitating seminars and information meetings regionally, implementing marketing strategies to provide advice on investment programs and related services.
  • Travel as required.
  • Consider the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Promote effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk controls are adequate.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing financial advice within the financial services industry, a university degree in business, commerce or financial planning, and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation. (For Quebec, Fin is mandatory).
  • IIROC licensed as a Registered Representative, including completion of the Canadian Securities Course, Conduct and Practices Handbook, and 90‑day training.
  • Life License (LLQP) and willingness to complete other regulatory requirements, including the Group Annuity Sector and Wealth Management Essentials.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport, influence clients, and nurture trust.
  • Excellent communication and active listening abilities, tailoring responses to client understanding and interest.
  • Fast decision‑making and prioritization skills, treating client urgency as personal urgency.
  • Commitment to personal development and continuous learning, embracing change.
  • Enthusiastic teamwork orientation, collaborating to best serve clients.
  • Broad knowledge of core financial products and confidence presenting them to clients.
