About the Role

Please note: This is a temporary 12 month term opportunity, with potential for extension. This position has a hybrid work arrangement
. On average, this means 1-2 day(s) on-site per week

As ATB Business’ next Agricultural Underwriter
, you are someone who loves solving problems and leveraging your financial skills to find ways to create a meaningful impact for our clients. Your primary responsibility is to collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure and recommend optimum credit solutions for ATB's Agricultural clientele. You are considered a knowledgeable lender with a good understanding of ATB's credit risk appetite and have some experience structuring more complex credits.

While this is not a customer-facing role, you may be required to meet virtually with clients or other external partners. You will report to the Agricultural Director, Central Underwriting. Your day-to-day work would involve credit risk analysis and preparing formal credit presentations along with meeting with your RM &/or Credit partners to determine optimum credit solutions. There will also be opportunity to showcase your leadership and presentation skills through various project work.

Accountabilities
  • Structure and prepare credit assessments/applications for new and existing agricultural clients with risk exposures up to 5 million in lending.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of financial statements, cash flows, and capital structures to thoroughly assess risk and recommend appropriate credit solutions.
  • Develop and interpret financial models, including projections and sensitivity analyses, to validate repayment capacity and stress-test assumptions.
  • Partner with the Relationship Management team as a key member of the first line of defense, providing risk assessment, challenging assumptions where necessary, and collaboratively structuring credit solutions that balance client needs with ATB's risk appetite.
  • Experience with standard and non-standard margining protocol, Early Warnings Signals and Covenants.
  • Ensure all credit applications are meticulously documented and that overall loan quality adheres to established internal credit policies and regulatory standards.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and mentor to junior underwriters and sales team members, sharing advanced credit knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of sound and consistent lending.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
  • Business or accounting degree or related business experience.
  • 2 to 3 years experience underwriting agricultural business loans or lending experience.
  • Strong analytical and financial analysis skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
