ResponsibilitiesMillwright responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical building equipment and related components across campus. The role includes skilled trade work for maintenance, repair and small renovation projects in all university buildings.
- Perform duties as a Licensed Industrial Mechanical (Millwright) in Ontario with valid certification (433A or 443A) and licensing in good standing.
- Perform skilled trade for maintenance, repair and small renovations.
- Diagnose equipment and mechanical issues.
- Inspect, investigate and solve problems related to building mechanical systems including pumps, motors, compressors, liquid transfer systems and fans, and provide technical advice for repairs.
- Adjust and align machinery and equipment according to specifications.
- Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment including cleaning, inspecting, lubricating and adjusting and assist in setting these schedules.
- Perform pipe fitting using multiple fastening methodologies as required to repair or replace pumps and motors.
- Fabricate metals and metal components such as aluminum, steel and stainless steel, using techniques and equipment including welding, bending, tapping and cutting.
- Rig, hoist and move heavy loads safely using approved lifting and rigging techniques.
- Operate and maintain machines such as lathes, drill presses, punch presses, shapers, grinders and other shop equipment to fabricate and assemble parts to make or repair mechanisms, tools, or machines.
- Repair and install snow removal and grounds maintenance equipment and machinery.
- Perform minor concrete work, including the building of forms and wire baskets.
- Review and interpret construction documents including blueprints, manufacturer’s installation manuals, plans, and specifications to determine work requirements and the sequence of repairs or installations.
- Utilize technical documents to complete assigned projects and update drawings to reflect any changes.
- Organize materials, tools and support staff in the shop and at the job site.
- Provide input to estimates for hours and materials as required by work order.
- Guide consultants, property managers and project managers to University buildings as assigned.
- Ensure work areas are left clean, safe and secure upon completion of tasks.
- Manage assigned work orders from initiation to completion, documenting all required information in databases and ensuring proper closeout in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Provide advice to clients and explain technical terms in non-technical language.
- Operate a motor vehicle or golf cart for transportation on campus.
- Perform pre- and post-work tasks such as preparing and securing the job site, transporting tools and equipment, and restoring the area upon completion.
- Operate within established security and safety regulations, University policies and procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Request, order, or pick up required materials from approved suppliers following procurement practices.
- Remain knowledgeable and current with trade requirements through participation in courses, instructional seminars and trade shows.
- Communicate with faculty, students, staff and visitors effectively to establish working relationships and respond to needs.
- Support the preparation of documentation required for control, audit or reporting purposes and safety inspections.
- Demonstrate behaviour consistent with organizational values while delivering high-quality work in a safe, collaborative and customer-focused manner.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Certificate of Qualification (433A or 443A).
- Valid Class G driver licence to travel between University offsite locations as required.
- Forklift Certification.
- Additional certifications are an asset.
- Minimum 3 years related experience.
