Job Description

Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered Teaching Assistant for the Cutler School. The role requires flexibility, teamwork, and enthusiasm for using technology to enhance student learning. The assistant will provide instructional support and direct services to students and parents, working under a teacher or other professional who is ultimately responsible for program design and implementation.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instructional Process
    • Plan and implement a program of instruction in collaboration with the teacher, aligned with the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in the adopted charter.
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
  • Curriculum Development
    • Maintain current subject matter knowledge and learning theory, sharing insights for continual improvement of the school’s curriculum.
    • Assist with ongoing curriculum revision processes.
  • Classroom Management
    • Develop, with the teacher, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques, consistently applied.
    • Taken necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    • Share responsibility during the school day for supervising students in all school areas.
    • Provide supervision of assigned students when circumstances require brief absences from the assignment.
  • Public Relations
    • Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules, and support them to the public.
    • Maintain appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time.
    • Communicate the positive aspects of the school program to the public.
    • Work cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children.
    • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with other staff members.
  • Professional Growth
    • Continue professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.
    • Cooperate with administration in planning appropriate in‑service training programs at the school.
    • Attend staff and committee meetings as required.
  • Student Evaluation
    • Evaluate student accomplishments regularly, using multiple assessment methods such as observation notes, rubrics, work samples, mastery skill checklists, criterion‑referenced tests, and norm‑referenced tests.
    • Make appropriate adjustments in the instructional program as required.
    • Respect confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.

  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • At least 2 years of relevant experience preferred
    • Ability to lift and position up to 50 pounds required
