Job DescriptionHamilton Wenham Regional School District is looking for a highly motivated, student-centered Teaching Assistant for the Integrated Preschool Program at Winthrop Elementary School. Overall, we are seeking a candidate who is flexible, comfortable working in a team setting and supporting best practices to enhance early childhood student learning. The candidate will perform duties that are instructional in nature and serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works with the teacher in planning and implementing a program of instruction that adheres to the school’s philosophy, goals, and objectives, and supports early childhood learning practices.
- Works with the teacher in creating a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to support early learning and social/emotional development.
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the preschool curriculum.
- Assists with whole-class, small group, and individual learning activities, as well as classroom management
- Works with the teacher in developing, in accordance with school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
- Supports a safe and positive learning environment for all students
- Shares responsibility during the school day for the supervision of students in all areas of the school.
- Works with the teacher in providing for the supervision of assigned students when circumstances require a brief absence from the assignment.
- Upholds and enforces board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public.
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance.
- Strives to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members. Professional Growth
- Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
- Supports data collection as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Responsible for toileting, support of student hygiene, and other daily living skills as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws.

The Winthrop School has an enrollment of approximately 370 pupils in preschool through fifth grade. The school contains 17 classrooms, a cafeteria/auditorium, a gym, learning center, music room, art room, language arts center, technology center, principal's and secretary's office, a health office, and a library. The field behind the school provides ample space for childrens' play as well as playground equipment.
