NOTICE OF POSITION OPENING
TEACHER CONSULTANT FOR THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible for providing support services for and on behalf of students with visual impairments.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
* Conduct formal and informal assessment of students to assist in determination of present level of educational performance, and the impact of the students vision loss in the school environment.
* Assist in the development of an educational program with appropriate techniques and curriculum which can be used successfully in the classroom, in the school building and in the community as appropriate.
* Complete and present a written evaluation report to parents/guardians and the local educational agency within required timelines.
* Maintain record of student progress and assist in the development of goals and objectives.
* Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral and academic data, and student progress on IEP goals and objectives.
* Conduct parent/teacher conferences as appropriate.
* Provide staff development and parent/guardian training.
* Travel to meet job requirements.
* Participate in IEP Team, MET and other meetings as requested or appropriate.
* Consult with other personnel including teachers, principals, other ancillary staff, medical personnel and parents to evaluate program effectiveness.
* Monitor and assist in the maintenance of Vision Impaired equipment.
* Knowledge of or ability to interpret visual acuity and how this impacts the student in the educational setting.
* Provide academic support and modification of instructional materials for classroom teachers and Visually Impaired students (i.e. Braille, enlarged print, etc) based upon IEP goals and objectives.
* Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes.
* Share information regarding community resources/agencies with parent/guardian as appropriate.
* Interpret medical information regarding vision as it relates to educational performance.
* Provide prereferral consultation.
* Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
* Maintain a professional personal appearance.
* Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
* Adhere to Board Policies.
* Maintain confidentiality.
MINIMUM PROFESSIONAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsement in VI, Master's Degree in education or field of study related to Special Education and full TC approval. 3 years successful experience in Special Education.

B. Complaint/Grievance Procedure Notice
I. Any person believing that the Calhoun Intermediate School District or any of the District's staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of non-discrimination laws or district non-discrimination policies may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance to the district's Civil Rights Coordinator.

II. The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with verbal answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:
Step 1
A written statement of the grievance signed by the complainant shall be submitted to the District's Civil Rights Coordinator within five (5) business days of receipt of answers to the informal complaint.
