GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Responsible for teaching students in a categorical special education classroom. Work with community agencies, as appropriate. Core curriculum is based upon MDE Guidelines.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties may be assigned.
* Provide instruction and assistance to secondary and post high school age students.
* Direct instruction.
* Support and consult with community agencies.
* Plan and direct learning activities for students according to their academic and behavioral needs.
* Work with families and students to plan for post school outcomes.
* Assess students to determine interests and match those interests with appropriate community resources.
* Plan instruction to facilitate growth and independence in the areas of transition: community, leisure, daily living.
* Evaluate student performance using formal and informal assessment tools.
* Diagnose specific student needs, address needs in IEP and plan and carryout individualized programs for each student.
* Develop and implement classroom structures and behavior programs for students, including positive behavioral interventions and behavior intervention plans.
* Consult and coordinate instruction, behavioral management and other appropriate student services with other personnel who serve students with disabilities.
* Prepare and maintain lesson plans that are aligned with the e-GLCEs and provide appropriate documentation of student performance.
* Plan curriculum and lessons based upon state standards that meet the needs of individual students.
* Complete evaluations, assessments and screenings of students in a timely manner.
* Meet individual student's and program needs.
* Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports and procedures including, but not limited to, lesson plans, behavioral data and student progress on IEP goals/objectives.
* Provide direction and information to teacher assistant(s).
* Travel to meet job requirements.
* Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
* Participate/coordinate IEPT and other meetings as requested/required.
* Use various software packages for communication and documentation purposes.
* Maintain regular consistent attendance and punctuality.
* Maintain a professional personal appearance.
* Adhere to district health and safety procedures.
* Adhere to Board Policies.
* Maintain confidentiality.
EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE:
Must meet Michigan Department of Education requirements for full/temporary approval as a Teacher of Secondary Special Education.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with any Special Education endorsement.

B. Complaint/Grievance Procedure Notice
I. Any person believing that the Calhoun Intermediate School District or any of the District's staff has inadequately applied the principles and/or regulations of non-discrimination laws or district non-discrimination policies may bring forward a complaint, which shall be referred to as a grievance to the district's Civil Rights Coordinator.

II. The person who believes s/he has a valid basis for grievance shall discuss the grievance informally and on a verbal basis with the District's Civil Rights Coordinator, who shall in turn investigate the complaint and reply with verbal answer to the complainant. S/He may initiate formal procedures according to the following steps:
Step 1
