Deerfield High School - Pay Rate: $20.25/hour with a 3rd shift annual stipend of $600 annually
This is a third shift role with hours 10:30 pm to 6:30 am (Sunday through Thursday). The Custodian is primarily responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy physical environment in our facilities, thereby ensuring full educational use of school facilities for students, staff, parents, and the school community.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Two years of custodial experience preferred
- Experience maintaining effective and professional working relationships with students, staff, supervisors, and school community members
- Proficient in the proper handling of chemical cleaners and supplies, adhering to manufacturer's instructions
- Works independently.

- Must be able to work safely in a pool environment.

- Cleans and preserves designated spaces, equipment, etc. in the building.
- Maintains building and grounds security in the building each school day.
- Restocks disposable items and provides head custodian with inventory usage and data.
- Assists the visiting public, utilizing the facilities with directions within the building and in obtaining and setting up needed equipment.
- During the summer months, this position will work 1st shift 6:30 am - 3:00 pm.
- Required to participate in the annual state‑required professional development classes.
- Performs general, routine custodial duties, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
- Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
- Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
- Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
- Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels; for positions within on‑campus residence halls, responsible for reporting concerns related to on‑campus residents.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Participates in on‑the‑job training of new staff on routine procedures.
- Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
- May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions.
- May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
- Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as assigned.
Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Effectively presents information and responds to questions from constituency groups. Applies knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establishes and maintains effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
Performs duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
