Salary:
Per Diem hourly rate based on current salary for providing nursing services for summer school students.
Summary:
The Summer School and ESY Nurse provides direct nursing services to students and staff members and coordinates a school health program to enhance health and wellness in the school community. Duties are to be performed in accordance with standards of professional school nurse practice, district/state board of education policies and procedures, and Illinois state law regarding nurse practice.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN)
* Valid Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license or Illinois Professional Educator License with School Nurse Endorsement (PEL-CSN)
* Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) certifications
* Illinois certification as a vision and hearing screening technician
* Prior professional nursing experience
Essential Functions:
The criteria indicated below are intended to describe various types of work that may be performed. The exclusion of specific responsibilities does not prohibit them if the work is similar, related, or a logical task of the position.
* Provide direct professional nursing services, including first aid, emergency care, and health assessments for students and staff.
* Identify health concerns, make appropriate referrals for diagnosis or treatment, and document findings and interventions.
* Conducts health assessments when there is reasonable suspicion that a student may be impaired by alcohol, medication, or other substances.
* Administer and monitor student medications according to established protocols, ensuring safe storage, accurate documentation, and compliance with physician orders.
* Provide and monitor tube feedings and other prescribed nursing procedures for students with special medical needs in accordance with individual healthcare plans.
* Collaborate with staff and families to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant delivery of specialized nursing care during the school day.
* Maintain daily student health records and required documentation in accordance with the Illinois School Student Records Act and district policies.
* Monitor student immunization compliance and ensure required health forms and documentation are current.
* Manage the health office to ensure a safe, organized, and confidential environment for students and staff.
* Maintain adequate supplies, equipment, and emergency materials in the health office throughout the summer session.
* Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators to address health concerns and promote safety and wellness.
* Serve as a resource to school personnel on issues related to student health, safety, and communicable disease prevention.
* Provide health education and information to students and staff as appropriate to specific situations or needs.
* Participate as a member of the crisis response team and provide care and support during health emergencies.
* Assess and report suspected cases of child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporter requirements.
* Support students with chronic health conditions by maintaining and following individual health care plans and emergency action plans.
* Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students requiring health accommodations or modifications.
* Maintain confidentiality of all student and staff health information in compliance with legal and ethical standards.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by summer school administrators.
Language Skills
Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups. Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Mathematical and Technical Skills
