The Bacterial Physiology and Metabolism Unit of the NIAID Laboratory of Bacteriology, under the direction of Dr. Ashley Groshong at Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, Montana, is now seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join their team.
About the positionThe Bacterial Physiology and Metabolism unit studies how the pathogenic spirochetes Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia hermsii transport nutrients and impact the enzootic cycle. To do this, we utilize in-vitro cultivation and mouse/tick infection models to mimimic bacterial mutagenesis and thus characterize the proteins and transporters important to our nutrient acquisition pathways of interest. Furthermore, we also use metabolomics, proteomics, and RNAseq to observe how nutrient availability affects bacterial protein expression, structure, and enzymatic function.

Additionally, Rocky Mountain Laboratories is a state-of-the-art research enterprise with advanced core facilities in metabolomics, proteomics, spatial transcriptomics, flow cytometry, intravital imaging, and an internationally recognized electron microscopy core. These core facilities provide training, guidance, and support for ongoing RML projects and fellows.
