JOB DESCRIPTION - TEACHER
The position shall require an appropriate teacher's certificate (PreK-3 and TOSD or TOH) issued by the State board of Examiners under the rules and regulations prescribed by the State Board of Education. Appointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. This position requires the medical and physical capacity to perfonn the major responsibilities.
APPOINTMENT AND TENUREAppointment shall be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the superintendent. Tenure shall be granted in accordance with state mandates.
CONTRACT AND SALARYThe salary for this position shall be consistent with the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the contract between the Board of Education and the Mercer County Special Services Education and Therapeutic Association.
Minimum
- Salary Guide Step 1: $77,426
The teacher shall report to the building principal or other administrators as designated by the superintendent. His/her performance shall be evaluated in a manner consistent with policies and procedures of the board of Education, as described in policy 4115.1.
GENERAL FUNCTIONSThe teacher is the educational specialist who transmits the mandates, intentions and efforts of state officials, the Board of Education and the administrative and supportive staff of the school district for the provision of a thorough and efficient education for pupils into practical reality.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIESIn order to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities, the teacher shall:
- a. Recognize and understand the nature of the pupils assigned, and the nature of learning
- b. Plan and implement learning experiences compatible with the objectives and curriculum of
- the school district and with the individualized educational plan of the pupil.
- a. Promote the educational growth of pupils, commensurate with pupil ability, as described in
- individualized educational plans.
- b. Examine, select and use materials and techniques appropriate to pupil needs, pupil
- ability, educational objectives and the curriculum, consistent with individualized
- educational plans.
- c. Plan and implement learning experiences compatible with the curriculum of the school
- district and the individualized educational plan of the pupil.
- d. Direct the activities of classroom assistants.
- a. Provide frequent evaluations to determine pupils' mastery of objectives.
- b. Maintain records of student progress.
- a. Promote the worth and dignity of pupils and strive for their educational success.
- b. Establish positive pupil-teacher relationships.
- c. Share responsibility for maintaining appropriate pupil behavior.
- d. Establish a social and emotional climate conductive to learning.
- e. Establish and maintain standards of behavior necessary for learning and the well being
- of the pupil and others, in accordance with school law, state regulations and the policies
- of the Board of Education.
- a. Maintain appropriate liaison and communication with parents.
- b. Maintain cooperative relationships with other members of the instructional, support and
- administrative staffs.
- c. Work effectively with other staff members in planning and evaluating the educational
- program.
- a. Exhibit respect and suppon for and adherence to goals, objectives, policies and
- procedures approved by the Board of Education.
- b. Share in the upholding and enforcing of school rules, administrative regulations and
- the policies of the Board of Education.
- c. Participate in staff development programs and staff meetings commensurate with
- the policies of the Board of Education and contractual obligations.
- d. Perform additional duties to those specified at the request of the superintendent or
- his/her designee.
