What We’re Looking For
At HNTB, you can create a career that is meaningful to you while building communities that matter to all of us. For more than a century, we have been delivering solutions for some of the largest, most complex infrastructure projects across the country. With our historic growth, it is an exciting time to join our team of employee‑owners.
This opportunity entails serving as a Geotechnical Engineer III within HNTB’s growing geotechnical practice, supporting a wide range of transportation infrastructure projects throughout planning, design, procurement, and construction. The successful candidate will apply geotechnical engineering principles and practical field experience to develop foundation and earthwork recommendations for roadway, railroad, and bridge projects, while working closely with multidisciplinary project teams.
Responsibilities include coordinating and observing subsurface exploration programs; reviewing and interpreting geotechnical investigation data; performing engineering analyses and design calculations; and preparing geotechnical reports, technical specifications, contract documents, and construction‑phase recommendations. The position requires a strong understanding of soil and rock characterization, foundation systems, retaining structures, embankments, pavement support, and construction considerations associated with transportation infrastructure projects.
This role offers a balance of office and field responsibilities, including participation in subsurface investigations, coordination with drilling and testing subcontractors, evaluation of geotechnical conditions, development of design recommendations, and support of geotechnical aspects of construction. The engineer will collaborate with structural, roadway, railroad, and construction teams to deliver practical, effective solutions and help resolve complex subsurface and foundation‑related challenges.
Working under the guidance of senior geotechnical staff while exercising independent engineering judgment, this position provides opportunities to broaden technical expertise, assume increasing project responsibilities, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the successful delivery of critical infrastructure projects for HNTB’s clients.
