Job Summary

The Business Analyst plays a critical role in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the institution's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) environment, with a primary focus on Ellucian Banner
. This position serves as a technical and functional liaison between IT and campus administrative departments (such as Financial Aid, Registrar, Admissions, Student Accounts, and Human Resources). The Specialist ensures system availability, resolves operational issues, assists with upgrades, and optimizes processes to support business operations across the institution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Functional & Technical Support
    • Provide tier-2 and tier-3 support for Ellucian Banner modules (e.g., Student, Financial Aid, General, Finance, HR) and integrated third-party applications.
    • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system issues, user requests, and data anomalies reported by functional departments.
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for end-user support ticket resolution within defined SLA guidelines.
  • System Maintenance & Enhancements
    • Collaborate with database administrators (DBAs) and developers to test, implement, and validate Banner updates, patches, releases, and regulatory updates (e.g., financial aid, IRS, state reporting).
    • Assist in the configuration, setup, and maintenance of Banner validation tables, rules, and security profiles.
    • Monitor and support scheduled batch jobs, integrations, and automated processes (e.g., UC4/Automic, App Worx, or native job submission).
  • Process Analysis & Documentation
    • Work closely with business owners to understand functional requirements and translate them into technical solutions or process improvements.
    • Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and end-user guides.
    • Assist in developing data queries and reports using tools such as PL/SQL, Argos, Crystal Reports, or Cognos to meet institutional reporting needs.
  • Training & User Support
    • Conduct training sessions for functional administrative staff on Banner functionality, best practices, and system upgrades.
    • Help administrative units optimize business workflows leveraging Banner's built-in features.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2-4 years of direct experience supporting Ellucian Banner (Banner 8/9, Administrative Pages, or Self-Service Banner) in a higher education environment.
    • Experience with higher education administrative operations (e.g., Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Accounts).
  • Technical

    Skills:

    • Proficient in SQL and PL/SQL query writing for Oracle databases.
    • Experience with Ellucian Banner architecture, job submission, and integration components.
    • Knowledge of reporting/analytics tools commonly used in higher education (e.g., EAB, Ektron, Evisions Argos, Cognos).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Banner 9 Administrative Pages and Extensibility tools.
  • Experience with job scheduling software (e.g., UC4/Automic, App Worx).
  • Knowledge of higher education data privacy and regulatory compliance standards (e.g., FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA).
  • Familiarity with degree audit systems (e.g., Degree Works) or CRM tools (e.g., Slate, Salesforce).
