About the Company
Simula UiB is a research institute in Cryptography and Information Theory based in Bergen, Norway. We are seeking a Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist for a permanent position in the Department of Information Theory, specialising in either machine learning or quantum information science.
The Department of Information Theory at Simula UiB conducts research on two main areas: statistical learning theory and quantum information theory. It currently comprises 9 members, including permanent staff, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, and is led by Dr Eirik Rosnes. Simula UiB also hosts the Centre for Quantum Communication Networks and Applications (QCNA), one of Norway’s four national centres for quantum technology research.
Launched in May 2026, QCNA has eight academic and industry partners, and includes distributed quantum applications as a core research theme. The Department of Information Theory is also part of Centre for Sustainable, Risk-averse and Ethical AI (SURE-AI), one of Norway’s six national centres for AI research. As a member of the Department of Information Theory, the successful candidate will have opportunities to contribute to activities within both the QCNA and SURE-AI centres.
