SummaryUnder the direction of garage management is responsible for the cleaning and maintaining al NJ TRANSIT vehicles, facilities, and property.
Responsibilities and Qualifications- Cleans interior of NJ TRANSIT buses, including sweeping and mopping bus floors, cleaning windows, maintaining the driver's area, vacuuming, and cleaning upholstery, cleaning light fixtures, washing interior surfaces.
- Removes trash, litter, and other refuse from buses.
- Cleans exterior of buses and all other NJ TRANSIT vehicles, including soaping, scrubbing, and rinsing of vehicles.
- Performs periodic sweeping and cleaning of COMPANY property and facilities, operating mechanical equipment as required.
- Fills out work report forms as required and performs all other duties as required by garage management.
- Must be able to understand written and oral directions.
- Must be able to work in harmony with fellow employees.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
- Must be able to move furniture and equipment properly to perform cleaning duties.
- Must be available for emergencies.
- Physical Demands:
Frequent lifting and carrying of objects, walking to buses, pushing cleaning objects or cart with loads 40 lbs or above. - A moderate degree of muscle endurance is required to push cart, manipulate buckets, and use mop during the repetitious movements associated with the cleaning process.
- Frequent manipulation including lifting of mop, broom, and other cleaning utensils.
- Work is performed in standing upright position 75% of time. Frequent bending of body at the waist with 25% of work done kneeling, stooping, crouching etc.
- Repetitive bending and working in cramped spaces (low seals, cushions, and luggage racks), and repetitive climbing into and out of bus.
- Education, Experience, and
Qualifications:
Previous experience in janitorial preferred. - Must have a High School diploma or GED from a recognized and accredited school.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Capable of completing forms and carrying out duties of the position.
- Pass the pre-employment physical and background checks (interview, background check and pre-employment medical screening).
- Must have flexibility to work any shift including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
