The Department of Theater at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in design beginning in the fall semester of 2026. There is a possibility of renewal for one to two additional years, contingent on department needs and successful teaching in the first year. Completion of the MFA or equivalent professional experience is

required prior to or shortly after the date of hire.

The field of specialization is open, and versatile candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply: scenic, costume, sound and/or projection design. The successful candidate will be engaged in multiple design disciplines, and take an innovative approach to design practice. Candidates with interests in object-based learning and/or developing interdisciplinary, cross-listed courses in multimedia, installation, environmental, or sustainable design practices are especially encouraged to apply.

The teaching assignment of five courses per year (or the equivalent) will include at least one introductory design course, a course in the candidate's field(s) of specialization, as well as the design of two departmental productions per year. The successful candidate may also be asked to contribute to all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. Salary Range or Pay Grade

$74,000-$78,000
