Supervisory Police Officer (Operations) with Security Clearance

Duties
* Serve as the primary person responsible for the development, implementation, and execution of law enforcement programs, policies, and procedures under the direction of the Chief of Police.
* Conduct long-range and day-to-day planning of operations of subordinate activities ensuring consideration of all assigned areas of responsibility.
* Recommend updates to policy letters, memorandums, and guidelines pertaining to the conduct and performance of assigned law enforcement activities.
* Maintain controls on all overtime worked in the unit.
* Conduct long-range and day-to-day planning of operations of subordinate activities ensuring consideration of all assigned areas of responsibility.
* Take charge of crime and accident scenes and directs and oversees law enforcement operations.
* Attend meetings with directors, managers, supervisors of other FHNY directorates/organizations on police operations and services required of the police force. Requirements Conditions of employment
* The incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
* This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
* This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster), is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
* Must possess and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and local government driver's license.
* This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
* Must be able to pass an annual Physical Ability Test (PAT) and perform the essential functions of the position to standards published in AR 190-56.
* Subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. False or fraudulent information provided by candidates is criminally punishable by fine or imprisonment per 18 U.S.C. Section 1001.
* Required to perform and pass semi-annual qualification testing with firearms, and observe applicable safety precautions, as required. Must obtain and maintain certifications for CPR/first aid techniques.
* Required to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
* A one-year supervisory probationary period may be required.
* Must be able to successfully graduate from a United States Army Military Police School accredited Civilian Police or Security Guard Course; unless waived, in accordance AR 190-56; within one year (12 months).
* Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
* This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Experience:

One year of specialized experience which includes:
1) Planning, directing, and/or reviewing the activities of police officers;
2) assigning work to subordinate police officers;
3) observing and evaluating the work performance of police officers; and
4) Participating in investigations; utilizing basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and/or techniques involved for maintaining order and protecting life and property. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
