General DescriptionThe Assistant Teacher will work collaboratively within the Therapeutic Interagency Preschool (TIP) program to assure cooperative programming of TIP Head Start clients. They will assist in planning, directing and implementing the curriculum, maintain records for compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Ohio Preschool Program rules, and BCESC regulations, policies and procedures. The role also involves advocating for children, assisting families and agency representatives through treatment and transition stages, providing follow-up visits, and ensuring safe transportation to and from school.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED; preference for Early Childhood Education/Child Development coursework, A.A. in Early Childhood, or a Pre‑Kindergarten certification.
- Hold or be enrolled in a child development associate (CDA) credential program to be completed within 2 years.
- Associate or baccalaureate degree in any area or enrollment in a program leading to such a degree.
- Supervised experience with preschool children preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations of children, including abuse/neglected, low function/developmentally delayed, and emotionally or behaviorally challenged populations.
- Knowledge of Early Childhood Development principles.
- Willingness to continue professional education and training, and/or enroll in Child Development Associate training.
- Team‑work and good organizational skills.
- History of good job attendance.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Attend interagency meetings as identified.
- Assist in formulating and implementing child/family interagency treatment plans.
- Provide ongoing documentation of each child's progress, educational and social/emotional development, and concerns for TIP treatment plans.
- Participate in activities related to IEPs, team development, and weekly lesson plans.
- Perform daily health and safety inspections and document attendance.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers for field trips; monitor children on those trips.
- Participate in daily planning and evaluation sessions.
- Plan and conduct home visits to gather information and communicate with parents.
- Document individual children's progress.
- Ensure the center meets Ohio Preschool Program rules, Head Start Performance Standards and BCESC requirements.
- Assume classroom supervisory role in absence of the Teacher.
- Assume van monitor role when necessary in absence of Assistant Teacher/Van Monitor.
- Implement nutrition activities.
- Attend staff training and meetings.
- Assist in managing inventory control.
- Refer children for other TIP or Head Start area services as needed.
- Report unauthorized or atypical visitors.
- Confer with supervisors regarding progress, concerns and recommendations.
- Confer with TIP consultants and therapists regarding children's and families' progress.
- Maintain required records and files.
- Plan and organize work to meet priorities and deadlines (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly).
- Maintain confidentiality in district matters.
- Continuously update and improve professional competence.
- Comply with state and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, OCR).
- Meet van at designated time and place prior to classroom session.
- Assist children on and off the van; ensure they are securely harnessed.
- Assist children and parents in getting ready for school.
- Monitor and document home environments at pick‑up and drop‑off times.
- Coordinate the van route to best serve the children.
- Monitor, intervene, and document children's behavior on bus.
- Document concerns noted of driver and monitor on other van(s).
- Help children safely exit the van and enter the classroom upon arrival.
- Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned.
