- Confirm system and design feasibility by analyzing customer requirements and project specifications.
- Visit customer sites to inspect and verify facility conditions and installation locations as needed.
- Create 2D/3D design, assembly, and fabrication drawings per customer specifications.
- Coordinate engineering reviews to identify design errors prior to ordering parts and the build phase.
- Create project bill of materials and coordinate parts ordering with Purchasing and third-party vendors; maintain communications to ensure parts are received on schedule and within budget. Discuss build specifications with vendors and assist Shipping/Receiving as needed when parts are received.
- Communicate with Sales regarding scope of work changes and discuss potential cost increases for customer negotiations.
- Prepare project manuals upon completion, including spare and wear parts lists.
- Manage the mechanical portion of assigned projects, including communication with Sales, customers, vendors, and team members; run status reports and ensure tasks are completed within budget and on schedule; seek continuous improvement on mechanical design costs.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to negotiate prices and terms with suppliers.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure system safety; apply mechanics principles to wrist inertia and momentum studies, robot reach, and EOAT gripping force.
- Provide project status updates to customers; travel and overnight stays of approximately 10%–15% may be required for meetings and site visits.
- Assist Sales as needed, including proposals and technical inquiries from customers.
- Act as Project Manager or Leader when needed, coordinating controls, production, purchasing, and sales to ensure smooth project execution from kickoff to on-site installation completion.
- Provide technical advice and improvement proposals for assigned projects and the broader mechanical engineering team.
- Assist Engineering Manager with miscellaneous tasks as necessary.
- Perform other duties as necessary to ensure organizational success and customer satisfaction.
B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Qualifications and Experience- 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience; automation industry experience is a plus.
- 5+ years of project management experience.
- Software proficiency: 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor and Solid Works are a plus), AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
- Attributes/skills:
Familiar with OSHA and industry standards; mechanical aptitude; experience with machining, sheet metal, and fabrication environments; manufacturing environment knowledge with technical operations and process flow; proven written and verbal communication skills; ability to multitask and prioritize.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
