Position: Native Language Support-On Demand Interpreter
Contract: Miscellaneous, Hourly
Immediate Supervisor: Building Principal/Administrator and Executive Director of Assessment-Gifted- ESL and K-12 PE
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Act as a native language support/translator in the target language for staff members and limited English proficient students and families.
- Communicate clearly with appropriate grammar and syntax in the target language and in English across reading, writing, listening, and speaking domains.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of the education program under the supervision and direction of assigned certified staff.
- Assist in the direct supervision of students under the supervision and direction of assigned certified staff as needed.
- Support language needs and communication with families by phone or email as required, and utilize technology to translate/interpret all forms in the target language for accurate communication.
- Assist building staff and families during enrollment and transition processes into assigned buildings and courses.
- Administer screener assessments to measure student English language proficiency and support state and local assessments as directed by the Building Test Coordinator and District Test Coordinator.
- Maintain the highest standard of confidentiality, uphold the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and comply with state and federal Title III regulations.
- Conduct yourself with proper interpreter protocol, adhering to the speaker’s words, not interjecting personal thoughts, and speaking respectfully and directly.
- Serve as native language support interpreter during ETR/IEP/504 meetings as needed.
- Act as a liaison for the District, community, staff, students, and parents with tact and diplomacy while supporting the district’s vision and mission; attend Conference Nights and Open Houses.
- Communicate and collaborate regularly with district administrators, ESL teachers, and other staff members.
- Attend a wide variety of meetings, community events, hearings, and interviews to serve as an interpreter of conversations.
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and/or meetings to maintain professional skills and growth.
- Adhere to all Hamilton City School District policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Attend required meetings and in‑services.
- Interact with the Superintendent and/or Board of Education and present information upon request.
- Respond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate manner.
- Stay abreast of Board guidelines and policies, especially regarding state/local testing and services for English Language Learners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor, building administration, and directors.
