Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative

Director of Engineering & Operations is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance and operation of all electrical system facilities. Manages and directs available resources and ensures responsibilities and reporting relationships are understood. Develops and recommends annual and long‑range work plans and budgets to the General Manager. Coordinates the Electrical Operations and Engineering Department’s activities with other cooperative departments.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility within budget and policy limits as delegated by the General Manager.
  • Design, construct, maintain and operate all electrical system facilities.
  • Effectively manage resources, establish responsibilities, and delegate authority while retaining overall accountability.
  • Develop and recommend annual and long‑range work plans and budgets for construction, maintenance, personnel, and equipment.
  • Recommend departmental structure and staffing for efficient resource utilization.
  • Administer employee development and compensation programs in line with policies.
  • Coordinate the Electrical Operations and Engineering Department’s activities with other departments.
  • Develop system of records, including maps, for full departmental operations.
  • Create procedures, service specifications, and manuals to guide personnel.
  • Purchase materials, supplies, and equipment for distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Maintain detailed material and supply documentation and inventory control.
  • Coordinate and secure necessary permits, easements, licenses, and correspondence.
  • Establish safety programs and procedures meeting accreditation standards.
  • Periodically perform appraisals of supervised personnel and make recommendations to the General Manager.
  • Provide reports to the General Manager on departmental effectiveness.
  • Offer technical support and backup functions for supervised personnel.
  • Maintain knowledge of RUS electric distribution and transmission design, operation, maintenance, and safety for training staff.
  • Stay abreast of Occupational Health & Safety, EPA regulations, National Electrical Safety Code, RUS bulletins, and cooperative policies.
  • Participate in and be certified in Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Maintain memberships in relevant local, state, or national organizations.
  • Attend Board meetings, committees, and other meetings as directed.
  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing consistent with DOT regulation and policies.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the CEO/General Manager.
