Position Summary

We are seeking a USDA/FDA Sanitation Supervisor to join our team! Under the direction of the Manufacturing Manager, the USDA/FDA Sanitation Supervisor has the responsibility of overseeing, directing and coordinating activities of workers, engage in the cleaning, sanitizing and readying of the plant for production of high-quality products. This person will also be responsible for sanitation planning, developing and implementing new methods and procedures to ensure food safety and quality.

In addition, improve the cleaning of equipment and other parts of the plant necessary for proper and efficient operation. This person will partner closely with the USDA Food Safety agency. This position requires strong leadership skills and people and process development is critical in this role.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in food manufacturing or industrial sanitation procedures. B.S. or B.A. degree in Food Science or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • USDA, FDA, and OSHA experience is preferred.
  • HACCP and SQF certifications are preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
Responsibilities
  • Manage sanitation schedules and employee schedules to ensure thorough cleaning and disinfection procedures.
  • Ensure the safety of all employees in the operation of equipment through proper training, enforcement of safety rules, documentation, and following proper procedures and GMP protocols.
  • Train and educate staff on sanitation best practices, proper PPE usage, and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures aligned with USDA/FDA standards.
  • Conducts regular inspections of facilities and production lines to ensure compliance with Sanitation regulations.
  • Adherence to good manufacturing practices and government standards in cooperation with the Quality Assurance department. Responsible for corrective action on food safety and quality problems.
  • Develop and execute actions plans to address any sanitation gaps in efficiencies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that downtime is minimized, and yield is maximized. Execute action plans to ensure root causes of unplanned downtime are addressed.
  • Directs cleaning of equipment and work areas.
  • Inspect premises for unsanitary practices and conditions.
  • Confers with management and production personnel on sanitation problems, and recommend changes in equipment, lighting, ventilation, or work practices to improve sanitation standards and purity of product.
  • Analytical skills regarding regular inspections, sanitation violations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies.
  • Interprets company policies to workers and train/enforces safety programs such as Haz Com and Lockout/Tagout.
  • Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
  • Maintains regular schedule of training updates for all employees.
  • Maintain all sanitation records pertaining to audit schedules.
  • Stays updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to continuously improve sanitation processes.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a cold and wet environment.
  • Operates in a manufacturing environment some of which may require hearing protection.
  • Stand for long periods of time and take frequent walks throughout the plant interior and exterior.
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds.
