Youth Development
Overview
HLWM is a grassroots, volunteer-driven agency founded in 1999. Since our inception, we have served thousands of inner-city children and youth through supportive programming. Programs are designed to help students stay on track for on-time graduation and navigate the many day-to-day obstacles that they face. Youth participate in Awareness and Prevention programs, Youth and Character Development classes and various education enrichment programs.
They enjoy experimenting in our STEAM lab and our PBL projects encourage effective communication, team building, and a new approach to engage in hands‑on learning. Community events and outreach efforts help throughout the year to provide additional support. Youth participate in community service projects to learn to contribute and give back to their own community. Translation is available to students and families if needed.
With supportive programs, youth are prepared to enter the workforce and/or further their education.

Member DutiesOur VISTA member will spend time learning about our community, identifying local needs, and collaborating with other staff to respond effectively. They will explore existing community resources and potential partners that can support our efforts to alleviate hunger among families in Butler County. Our VISTA member will also raise awareness of our agency, strengthen our capacity to serve, and bring in additional resources that will support the long‑term sustainability of our programs.
Through their work, they will play a key role in expanding our impact and ensuring our services continue to benefit the community for years to come.
