This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Provides care with minimal RN supervision to a select group of patients.

* Performs and documents focused assessments (i.e. pain assessment, fall risk assessment) and reports abnormal findings to the RN team leader or charge nurse.

* Performs Accu-Check glucose screen, takes and records vital signs and reports all significant deviations to the RN and/or health care provider immediately.

* Evaluates the nutritional needs for patients, including feeding assistance, and performs as necessary.

* Actively participates in interdisciplinary team planning and patient care meetings.

* Utilizes problem-solving process when patient problems arise.

* Informs RN about data obtained pertaining to the problem.

* Offers solutions to problems and offers feedback to ancillary members emphasizing ways to improve performance.

* Accepts and mentor's non-RN staff and student nurses.

* Ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care and patient/family education.

* Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD/DO, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.

* Establishes constructive relationships with individual patients and their families to elicit feelings and attitudes, and to promote positive relationships, communication and socialization skills.

* Fosters an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.

* Actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, sharing new knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice.

* The incumbent demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the Veteran patients served in his/her assigned service area

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday; 7:30 am- 4:00 pm.
