Exam and EligibilityTo establish an eligibility list for the Maintenance Worker – Water Reclamation classification, an open competitive exam will be administered through CPS HR Consulting. This online remote proctored exam will be administered the week of Friday, July 17th – Friday, July 24th.
Eligible candidates will be tested on the following subjects:
- Reading and applying general information
- Tools and equipment
- Mathematical ability
- Safe work practices
Applicants must obtain a valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire.
Job SummaryThis is semi-skilled manual work involving the use of hand and power tools in the maintenance and repair of water and water reclamation equipment and facilities.
Employees are responsible for performing progressively responsible manual work requiring skilled and dexterity. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a chief maintenance mechanic who issues work orders, provides instruction in difficult tasks, and checks work frequently for conformance to instructions. Incumbents may act as lead worker for a crew of laborers. Employees must be aware of and practice safety precautions as work is often done around hazardous substances.
EssentialJob Functions
- Uses power bench tools (saws, pipe threader, welders, drill press, etc.) in repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Lubricates and inspects equipment and takes readings from meters and gauges.
- Performs scheduled maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Repairs, and assists with repair of, malfunctioning equipment and assists with installation of new equipment.
- Reconditions deep wells, pulling from ground and repairing or replacing worn parts; performs maintenance tasks at reservoirs and water booster stations.
- Operates various types of trucks, air compressors, hoists, and other equipment in utility assignments.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of the practices, tools and materials involved in the performance of semi?skilled tasks within the work area assigned.
- Ability to perform semi?skilled tasks without close supervision.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
Ability to read schematic drawings and blueprints of mechanical equipment used in work area. - Ability to perform a variety of semi?skilled manual tasks.
- Ability to get along well with fellow employees and the public.
- Skill in the use of various types of hand and power tools related to the work.
- Skill in the operation of various types of automotive equipment.
- Six (6) months experience as a laborer or in construction.
- Ability to obtain or currently possess a valid Class B, or higher, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Health Insurance: The City offers comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage. The medical plan is a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to help cover eligible healthcare expenses. Health insurance coverage begins on your date of hire.
Holidays: For many employee groups, the City provides 17 days (136 hours per year) of paid holiday leave. These include:
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
Life Insurance: After six months of employment, employees are eligible for $10,000 coverage under the group life insurance policy. Additional coverage up to the employee’s annual salary ($40,000 maximum) may be purchased. Upon retirement this coverage will be reduced to $4,000. The premiums will be paid by the City.
Voluntary Supplemental Benefits: Life insurance (term and whole life), critical illness/cancer, accident, short / long term disability insurance.
