Regulator Technician
This is an internal job posting. Only current City of Hamilton employees who are IUOE members are eligible to apply. This is skilled work installing, operating and maintaining natural gas system pressure/flow regulation equipment. This includes supervisory and skilled labor in installation, maintenance, adjustment, inspection and testing of gate stations, regulator stations and relief sites. Regulator Technician is responsible for proper odorization of natural gas at City gate stations and installation, operation and maintenance of all odorization equipment, including monitoring and adjusting odorant concentrations.
This position is also responsible for operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the City Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) filling station.
- Supervise crews/contractors in installation, operation, maintenance and adjustment of regulators according to Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and requirements.
- Troubleshoot various natural gas system related service calls and promptly, effectively and safely resolve service issues.
- Compile and maintain work and inspection records; compile and maintain various required records and reports.
- Install, operate, maintain and replace natural gas regulators and relief valves.
- Install, operate, maintain and replace natural gas odorization equipment.
- Operate and maintain natural gas fired boilers.
- Operate and maintain the City CNG filling station.
- Coordinate regulator and relief valve sizing and new regulator station design with Utility Engineering Department.
- Plan, coordinate and complete all required tasks of rebuilding/installing new regulator/relief stations.
- Performs related work as required.
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical operation of regulators and all associated equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of operation of all regulator stations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, specifications, and construction plans/drawings.
- Thorough knowledge of construction and maintenance materials, tools, and equipment applicable to the required work.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of pressure and temperature effects on natural gas volumes.
- Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements.
- Thorough knowledge of City natural gas system piping/pressure layout.
- Ability to meet/exceed DOT requirements.
- Ability to compile and maintain records and prepare various reports.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires High school diploma, GED or equivalent
- Requires experience in gas operations and regulators
- Valid Ohio driver's license
- Must be OQ qualified
Preferred Qualifications:
- Considerable experience and/or training in the above-mentioned examples.
