Pay Rate: $21.30/hour

Benefits Eligible: After 60 days

• Ensure safety of students
• Transport students safely and efficiently to and from school and school-related events
• Follow assigned bus routes and schedules
• Maintain required records and information
• Report any mechanical problems to the utility worker or supervisor
• Keep assigned vehicle neat and clean
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of driving laws applicable to transporting school children
• Obey all traffic laws
• Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
• Maintain pupil control and report any violations to the proper authorities
• Discharge students only at authorized bus stops
• Transport only authorized students
• Report all accidents and complete required reports
• Enforce applicable federal and state laws, and Board of Education policies
• Complete established pre-trip inspection of vehicle
• Report any hazardous conditions along the route to the transportation supervisor
• Attend bus driver meetings and be available for early dismissal
• Notify transportation supervisor of illness to secure substitute driver
• Conduct front, rear, and combination door emergency evacuation drills
• Prepare reports, route maps, schedules, pupil lists, and accident reports per State of Ohio and Board of Education requirements
• Communicate with public with tact and diplomacy
• Maintain confidentiality of student information and medication
• Interact positively with staff, students, and parents
• Promote good public relations through appearance, attitude, and safe bus operation
• Attend required meetings and in-services
• Fill out incident reports and Code of Student Behavior violations

• Warm up the engine gradually in cold weather
• Exercise responsible leadership during out-of-district field trips
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor

• Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
• Occasional operation of a bus in inclement weather
• Frequent interaction with unruly children
• Occasional evening/weekend/summer work
• Occasional requirement to lift and carry bus supplies
• Frequent requirement to climb, e.g., steps on a bus and to check bus fluids
• Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching during inspections
• Frequent requirement to balance when adjusting side mirrors
• Frequent extensive sitting, up to 4 hours at a time
• Frequent exposure to high noise levels, e.g., bus engines
• Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., opening bus door and turning steering wheel
• Occasional requirement to lift students or push/pull wheelchair-bound students
• Occasional requirement to carry bus students in emergency evacuation
• Frequent exposure to fumes such as carbon monoxide and diesel fuel
• Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see (color vision required), read, speak, reach, stretch arms, crouch, climb, balance, kneel, and stoop
• Occasional requirement to restrain
• Occasional requirement to work overtime
