Job Description:
Overview of Residential Learning CoordinatorThe Residential Learning Coordinator (RLC) is responsible for creating and supporting a combined community of 950 on campus residents as well as supervise/aid in the growth and development of student staff members. The RLC will oversee the daily operations of a residence hall community in conjunction with the Assistant Director for Residential Education and participate in a housing on‑call duty rotation.
Experience in higher education is preferred. Two years of professional or graduate experience managing college housing or related areas is preferred.
Pay:
- $42,000 - $44,000
Schedule:
- Typically 8am – 5pm with occasional evening work and weekends; will flex work schedule to accommodate
Supervision:
- Reports to the Assistant Director for Housing and Residential Education
- Recruits, interviews, hires, trains, and supervises undergraduate student staff within a residence life system
- Revises, maintains, and update student staff training manuals
- Maintains employment records for direct reports
- Plans staff development opportunities for student staff members
- Maintains a working knowledge of PNW policies and procedures
- Facilitates performance evaluations for student staff members
- Supports an environment that is conducive to living and learning by ensuring that student staff are meeting their job responsibilities, completing their programming expectations, having regular floor meetings, and aiding residents in conflict resolution
- Maintains recognition programs for student staff
- Communicates appropriately with student staff
- Holds weekly staff meetings and 1:1s with supervised staff
- Maintain RA Duty Schedule to ensure all calendars are updated/shared with supervisor.
Community Building and Residence Life:
- Leads RAs in developing programming for their respective building
- Supports residents on a daily basis by answering questions, addressing concerns, and resolving conflicts
- Creates and sustains a living environment that promotes academic success, student leadership, and responsibility to community
- Collaborates with appropriate departments across campus to present educational programming
- Communicates pertinent community and University information to residents in a professional and concise manner through posters, letters, email, or other forms of marketing and advertising
- Monitors RA purchase requests, seeks appropriate purchasing approval and maintains a programming budget
- Attends and plans University events as instructed
Behavioral and Crisis Prevention, Intervention and Response:
- Addresses behavioral concerns with the goal of student growth and community development
- Enforces the policies and procedures of the Department of Housing and Residential Education
- Serves as a resident conduct administrator
- Collaborates with other departments to assist students
- Maintains proper records and documentation related to students
- Serves in a housing on‑call duty rotation
- Responds to emergency or crisis situations in a timely fashion and uses sound judgment to effectively resolve, address, or properly refer concerns to other campus resources.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Supports, understands, and promotes the mission of Purdue University Northwest and the Department of Housing and Residential Education
- Oversee/maintain department Social Media presence and establish content roadmap (timeline)
- Provides timely responses to phone and email inquiries
- Meets deadlines with attention to detail and efficiency
- Communicates information in a timely manner with supervisor and the department
- Serves on campus committees, task forces, and/or search committees as requested
- Participate in department assessment efforts
- Manages room inspections and other housing operational processes
Student Leadership Development:
- Co‑Advise housing student leadership organizations;
- Provides training and leadership development opportunities to student leaders
