Duties and Responsibilities of an Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field- Assist head coach in the planning, organizing, and coaching of the track and field/cross country programs
- Provide technical instruction in one or more areas (sprints, jumps, throws, pole vault or distance)
- Assist the head coach with recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, social media and coordinating camps and coaching clinics
- Maintain knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations to ensure compliance
- Assist with game management
- Assist with Fitness Center coverage
- Serve as van driver transporting teams to and from away games
- Perform other duties as assigned
- This position offers a flexible work schedule but requires a strong on‑campus presence

Education of an Assistant Coach, Cross Country, Track and Field- Bachelor’s degree
- Bachelor’s degree in sports management, physical education, education, fitness or a related program is preferred
- Two years of track and field coaching experience required at the professional or college level
- Experience coaching specific event groups: sprints, hurdles, pole vault, jumping, throwing or distance
- Experience coaching sprints/hurdles is preferred
- Strong team‑building/management skills
- Ability to work across academic and administrative departments in a cooperative manner
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts
- Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership
- Ability to interact with members of the public and media
- Ability to supervise temporary staff
- Understanding of student‑athletes’ commitment to academics
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally
- Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules and regulations to ensure compliance
- Valid driver’s license
- Must be able to use personal vehicle to drive on behalf of the university
- Must meet minimum driver qualifications as defined by the Use of Vehicles for University Business Policy
This position is dependent upon continued grant funding.
