About the Position
The School City of Hammond is seeking a dedicated, student-centered Part-Time Instructional Aide to support classroom teachers and enhance learning for students in grades K–6. The ideal candidate is flexible, collaborative, and passionate about helping all students succeed in a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide small-group and one-on-one instructional assistance under teacher direction.
- Support students with reading, writing, math, and other classroom tasks.
- Collect progress monitoring data and assist with assessment preparation.
- Reinforce behavioral expectations and help maintain a supportive classroom environment.
- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other non-instructional periods as needed.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom routines.
- Confers with teachers about instructional materials, student needs, and progress, and reports observations.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policy.
- Oversees students during non-instructional times like lunch, recess, or field trips.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working with children or in a school setting is highly desirable.
Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to follow instructional plans and support students with patience and professionalism.
Any additional responsibilities given by building principal.
Work EnvironmentActive school setting involving movement, interaction with students, and collaboration with staff.
May require standing, walking, bending, or lifting up to 25 pounds.
