Student - On/Off-Campus Ambassador, Office of Parent, Community & Early Ed Outreach (Undergrad Ad)

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic student worker to support our 21st Century Scholar outreach and assistance on site in local schools. This role is vital in fostering connections between schools, families, and the community, while promoting college readiness among K-8th grade students. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and capable of engaging with diverse communities while adapting to different environments.

Job Responsibilities
  • 21st Century Scholar Assistance: Assist in the implementation and promotion of Indiana’s 21st Century Scholar program within schools, helping students and families navigate the program’s resources and opportunities. Knowledge of Scholar Track accounts is preferred, but training is also available.
  • College Readiness Presentations: Deliver presentations on college readiness to K-8th grade students, ensuring they understand the importance of early preparation for higher education.
  • Flyer Creation: Design, create, and distribute flyers to promote events, programs, and resources in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Basic Tutoring: Provide basic tutoring for K-8 students in the assigned school(s) at least one day per week, for at least one hour. This could be in a classroom setting working with a small group of students.
  • Attend Site-School Events: Participate in school events where PNW’s early education and community efforts are relevant (e.g., Family Night, Trunk or Treat, Open House, etc.).
  • Assist Main Office in Site-School: When necessary and when the task is community-facing (e.g., greeting parents/families who enter the school, walking them to their destination, checking in for parent nights).
Skills and Qualifications
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and effectively to a diverse audience.
  • Bilingual Ability: Fluency in both English and another language (e.g., Spanish) is highly preferred, but not required for effective communication with non-English-speaking families.
  • Organizational

    Skills:

    Strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple responsibilities, manage tasks, and coordinate outreach activities efficiently.
  • Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Tech Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and design software (e.g., Canva) for creating flyers, worksheets, and presentations.
  • Problem-Solving

    Skills:

    Strong problem-solving skills to adapt to changing circumstances and respond effectively to the needs of students and families.
  • Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate events and meetings.
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework or experience in education, communication, or a related field is preferred.
  • Federal Work‑Study Student.
Experience
  • Previous experience working in education, community programs, or with youth is highly desirable.
Physical Demands
  • Activity Level: Ability to stand, sit, and move around frequently during presentations, meetings, and outreach activities.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to travel to various schools, community centers, and events.
