Overview
The University Library on the Westville Campus is seeking a Library Assistant to join their team. Under the guidance of the Library Director, the assistant will perform library opening and closing procedures, including evenings and weekends, and maintain the functional operation of the Public Services Desk. The role includes supervising and training Library Student Assistants.
Pay- $15.00/hour
- Monday – Friday with 1–2 weekends during the fall and spring semesters
- Assist faculty, staff, students and community borrowers in the use of library services, equipment, and technology.
- Provide reference assistance to patrons with research and class assignment questions.
- Assist the university archivist on special projects.
- Supervise, train, and provide feedback for evaluation of library student assistants.
- Process Interlibrary Loans using current OCLC systems and coordinate with OCLC support to resolve service issues.
- Assist in statistical record‑keeping and tracking of Interlibrary Loan and document delivery transactions.
- Assist with emergency procedures when evacuation is required.
- Serve as backup for reserves and billing process requests.
- Participate in professional development activities, including conferences, seminars, and workshops.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of the University Library.

- Requires a high school diploma or GED.
- Three years of customer service experience in direct contact with clients in an office setting.
- University and/or library experience preferred.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and weekends occasionally.
- Good judgement, multitasking, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
- Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Confidentiality and effectiveness with diverse groups of individuals.
- Navigation of databases and other computer programs.
- Basic knowledge of library classification systems preferred.
- Excellent customer service to internal and external customers, with ability to interpret and communicate university policies and procedures.
- Adaptability to change and willingness to learn new things.
- Professional demeanor.
- Supervision of student workers and travel between campuses.
