ELL Teacher Position
The Hammond Academy of Science and Technology is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated ELL Teacher to join our team for the 2026-27 school year. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education, English as a Second Language (ESL), English Learner (EL) Education, or a related field. A valid Indiana Department of Education teaching license with the appropriate grade-level endorsement for grades 6-12 or eligibility to obtain Indiana licensure before the start of employment is required.
Current or eligible for an English Learner (EL)/English as a New Language (ENL) license addition or endorsement as required by the Indiana Department of Education is also necessary. Knowledge of second-language acquisition, language development, and instructional strategies for multilingual learners is essential. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the academic and linguistic needs of English Learners, strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, administrators, and families are also required.
Preferred qualifications include experience with WIDA English Language Development Standards and administering or interpreting the ACCESS for ELLs assessment. Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and project-based learning, experience using data to monitor student progress and inform instruction, and bilingual (Spanish preferred) or multilingual proficiency are also preferred.
Responsibilities include writing and following student's ILPs and conducting progress monitoring. The school currently enrolls approximately 600 students in grades 6-12. The Academy serves a diverse population of students. The curriculum is project-based, reflecting the complexity of the real world. Instructional technology is infused throughout daily instruction and integrated into the curriculum and instructional methodologies. Partnerships with local organizations open the learning environment to the outside world.
Job type is full-time. Salary for new teachers starts at $49,000 per year.
