Overview
GENERAL
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Plumbing Department performs systems diagnostics, installations, repairs, maintenance, and preventive maintenance at all school facilities;
Responsible for other areas of concern not normally related to the plumbing trade including Fire Protection, swimming pool operation, food service equipment repair and maintenance, and athletic field irrigation systems. Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of all plumbing systems including but not limited to pipes, drains, and plumbing fixtures in the facilities owned and/or operated by the school district.
- Assists with instruction of custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods or procedures related to new equipment or emergency onsite shutdowns
- Assists with examination of district-owned facilities for purposes of maintenance and preventive maintenance
- Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments
- Assists with maintaining safety and code requirements
- Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies
- Other duties may be assigned by immediate supervisor

- Respond to all appropriate e-mail as normally occurs on a daily basis
- Ensure that our trucks, tools, and equipment are properly maintained
- Attend any applicable meetings regarding new construction, job progress, problem solving, custodial education, etc. that pertain to plumbing
- Know the entire plumbing system well enough to have a general course of direction to keep the system ever-improving
- Monitoring, maintenance and/or repair of:
- Plumbing fixtures – Toilets, sinks, urinals, showers, gang shower systems, drinking fountains, emergency showers and eye washes
- Pumps – Hot water circulation pumps, pressure boosting pumps, and pool pumps.
- Piping –Water, waste, and vent piping. Repair clogged sewer lines due to vandalism, grease, and tree roots. Repair leaks in water lines due to aging galvanized steel water pipes and drains.
- Swimming Pools – Maintain high school pools in working order year around. Change pool pumps and filters.
Note:
We have completely rebuilt two of our school’s pool filter systems from the ground up. - Backflow prevention devices – We are certified to inspect, test, and repair devices owned by the school system.
Science labs – Maintenance of hundreds of lab faucets, eye wash stations, emergency showers, natural gas connections, and air valves in science classrooms.
- Roof drains – Check and keep open hundreds of area roof drains which can become clogged with leaves and other debris.
- Parking lot drains – Same as above.
- Water heaters – Maintenance, repair, replacement, and testing of between one and five water heaters per school including booster heaters on kitchen dishwashers.
- Culinary and food service equipment – Maintain equipment such as; dishwashers, steamers, kettles, can openers, meat slicers, food disposers, hose reels, conveyors, ovens, and mixers of all sizes.
- Consumer and Family Science, teachers lounges – Maintenance and repair of appliances, sinks and drains
- Ice Makers – Maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance of ice makers. Shared with HVAC Department. Replace filters on district icemakers, culinary equipment such as steamers and combi ovens
- Athletic Fields – Start-up, summer watering, and winterizing of four underground sprinkler systems.
